Fall crafts to entertain the little ones
Shorter days and cooler nights. Brilliant displays of golds and reds take over the landscape. Fall is here, and with Fall comes the need for fun and engaging crafts to keep the little ones occupied and creatively engaged. We’ve shared some of our favorite kid-friendly Autumn crafts that are guaranteed to keep your little one entertained for hours.
Leaf Sun Catchers:
Autumn sunshine warms the home and heart – so why not capture the beauty of the season with an impressively easy craft that’s guaranteed to be quick and fun for the kids, and perfect to decorate the windows and share with family and friends? For just a few dollars you can collect all the materials; a roll of clear contact paper, a pack of fall-colored tissue paper, and a cookie cutter. Let the little ones tear up the tissue paper into a bowl, then sandwich the bits between the contact paper. Use a cookie cutter to trace leaf patterns to cut out, and you’ve got a perfect decoration that will keep the little ones entertained for hours.
Pumpkin Spice Playdough:
Nothing creates hours of kid-friendly entertainment like playdough. Moms prefer to use one of the ultra-simple recipes to make natural playdough rather than store bought. Bring out the season with a dash or two of nutmeg, cinnamon, apple pie or pumpkin pie spice. Then kick it into fall with some natural, autumn-themed food dyes, such as beet juice, carrot juice and turmeric as the last step – and mix some together for perfect in-between shades!
Pine Cone Bird Feeders:
Teach the little ones to appreciate the beauty and joy of nature while providing hours of amusement with this clever use of pinecones. A little outdoor fun collecting pinecones of various sizes is the perfect activity to burn up a little energy. Then, grab a jar of peanut butter from the cabinet, a bag of birdseed, and a couple baking pans for the kids to work over – to control the mess! Spread the peanut butter over the pinecone, making sure to get into the nooks and crannies. Let the young ‘uns sprinkle and roll in the birdseed until coated. Using twine, hang the feeders up in trees and let the feasting begin!
It’s a proven fact that googly eyes make everything fun – for kids as well as adults. Unleash your child’s creativity with some finger paints, a collection of leaves in various shapes and sizes, and a handful of google eyes in various sizes. Cover the work area – and your cherub – with newspaper and an apron to contain the splatters of joy and let the fun begin! You will see your child light up with joy as they let the creativity flow, seeing critters and adorable monsters with their imagination. Glue a magnet to the back of the cute monsters for perfect refrigerator art.
